Avannaata Kommunea and Kalaallit Meerartaat have entered into a multi-year collaboration that aims to create better conditions for children, young people and families through local efforts and voluntary commitment.
Avannaata Kommunia has signed a cooperation agreement with Kalaallit Meerartaat, which will strengthen the well-being of children and young people in the village of Kullorsuaq. The agreement gives the organization the opportunity to work closely with local actors to create a good environment for the city’s children and families.
The collaboration “Ikioqatigiinneq – Let’s help each other” is based on questions about whether Kullorsuaq can be a good place to grow up, and what wishes and dreams children, young people and parents have for the future.
Mayor Lars Erik Gabrielsen (S) welcomes the joint effort.
– The children are our future, and we want to show them that we take their well-being seriously and listen to them to find good solutions that can create better children’s lives in Kullorsuaq.
– I am happy to experience how the city’s citizens support by providing input at citizen meetings and standing up as volunteers when the many good ideas have to be put into practice for the benefit of the children, young people and families who live in the city, says Lars Erik Gabrielsen.
Building on local engagement
Kalaallit Meerartaat has held summer camps in Kullorsuaq for several years. With the new agreement, the cooperation is provisionally extended until 2027 through the initiative Ikioqatigiinneq – Let us help each other.
Already this summer, the collaboration will be visible in the city, where local and visiting volunteers will jointly repair the family homes that are most in need of renovation.
According to the head of the secretariat for Kalaallit Meerartaat, Evi Kreutzmann, local involvement is crucial for the project’s success.
– I am happy about the close and trusting collaboration with Avannaata Kommunea, which will create improvements for the most important resource in a local community – namely children and young people. This can only be done because there are an incredible number of dedicated people living in the city who stand up and get involved in their local community. I am proud that we as an organization can support this, says the head of the secretariat.
