KUCHING (April 22): The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) is proposing the introduction of an industry award to recognise outstanding graduates from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
JKR Sarawak director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris said the department is considering offering the industry awards to high-achieving Swinburne Sarawak graduates as part of efforts to strengthen industry-academia partnership.
“We are proposing to offer an industry award from JKR Sarawak to outstanding Swinburne Sarawak students who have graduated.
“We will bring this proposal to the management together with the university to establish the JKR Sarawak Industry Award and see how to make it a reality,” he told reporters.
Cassidy said discussions are ongoing between JKR Sarawak and the university, with the award criteria yet to be finalised.
“Nothing is finalised yet, but this is our idea with Swinburne,” he added.
When asked about the impact of the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia on the construction sector and the status of current projects, Cassidy declined to comment.
“I am not in the capacity to provide comments on the matter,” he said.
