Hebrew media said, “A series of consultations took place during the past twenty-four hours within the defense establishment and at the political level, in conjunction with talks between Tel Aviv and Washington at all levels, in light of expectations for the resumption of communications with… Lebanon Next Tuesday.
Senior officials familiar with the discussions said that no US request had been received so far for the Israeli army to withdraw from southern Lebanon, but that “limited withdrawals” from areas in Lebanon were being considered, as was first reported this evening (Sunday).
The Hebrew Channel 12 said that Israel is studying the possibility of implementing “partial withdrawals” from areas where the IDF is present outside the ten-kilometer line, including the Beaufort area.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, there is disagreement on this issue, as some believe that given the symbolic importance of Beaufort, it should continue to be controlled, while others believe that withdrawing from it may indicate an Israeli initiative towards restoring relations with Lebanon.
