Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan stated that the expansion of lines dedicated to public transport in the capital continues to be a priority.
“Armenpress”according to the report, at the procedural session held on June 29, Avinyan presented the data collected by the Yerevan Traffic Management Center, noting that in the months of January-December 2025, around 75 million trips were analyzed. According to him, during that period, the average speed of vehicles in the capital was 25 km/h and the indicator has a tendency to decrease, and during peak hours the average speed of passenger cars can drop to 10 km/h. The mayor noted that short trips up to 2 km in length make up about 15 percent of total trips, and most of them are carried out in the city center.
“Separated lanes for buses are a priority. People complain that only public transport can travel on those lines, but this is natural, because we do not have the opportunity to widen our streets. We are connecting Arshakunyats Avenue to Isakov Avenue, we have plans to build large bridges, but there is no way to widen the streets,” Avinyan said.
He also informed that it is planned to create large parking lots near the entrances and different parts of the city, where citizens will be able to leave their personal cars and continue their journey by public transport.
