Yerevan Municipality plans to give Hrazdan Gorge the status of a specially protected community area.
The draft of the relevant decision has already been developed and will be presented to the Yerevan Council of Elders for discussion in the near future.
“Armenpress”According to the report, Sirarpi Haykazyan, the acting head of the environmental protection department of the Yerevan Municipality, announced this at the administrative session of the Yerevan Municipality. “The Department of Environmental Protection has already developed the draft decision of the Council of Elders, which will be presented at the upcoming session. With the implementation of this action, after the adoption of the package of amendments to the law, Yerevan will become the first community that will define a specially protected community area for nature. This is also an important commitment within the framework of the COP17 to be held in Armenia,” Haykazyan noted.
According to him, like all specially protected areas, Hrazdan Gorge should have a management plan.
“A corresponding tender has already been announced by the Asian Development Bank for this purpose,” he said.
