The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings initiated in connection with the case of killing a 1-year-old child by the stepmother was completed in the investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee of Yerevan city.
During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, it was found and substantiated that R.E. accused 1-year-old A.M., who was dependent on him and was actually entrusted to his care, of causing an irreconcilable and troublesome situation in the family of him and M.R. applied to the child lying in bed, that is, he hit various parts of the latter’s body and head with his hands, as a result of which the child lost consciousness.
In addition, on March 15, 2026, RE, with direct intent to unlawfully take life, struck the head of a child lying in bed, causing life-threatening bodily injuries, resulting in the latter’s death.
According to the decision of the supervising prosecutor, a public prosecution was initiated against R.E. under Article 155, Part 2, Clause 3 (murder of a helpless person) and Article 196, Part 2, Clauses 3 and 6 (causing severe physical pain or mental suffering to a minor dependent on a criminal) of the Criminal Code.
The stepmother was detained.
The criminal proceedings were sent with the indictment to the supervising prosecutor with a request to send it to the court for confirmation and examination.
Notice: the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the Code of Criminal Procedure by a legally binding court verdict.
