The chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti, has reacted to the protest that has been going on for 25 days in Tirana, expressing his concern about the consequences that, according to him, these developments may have for Albania.
In a statement to the media, Ahmeti evaluated Albania’s historical role for Albanians in the region, especially for Kosovo, emphasizing that the country has been a key factor in the processes of its freedom and state formation.
He said that he is following the developments in Albania with concern and that the protests are causing “two strong blows” to the country, highlighting the impact they may have on tourism and the investment climate.
According to Ahmet, tourism, as one of the main pillars of the Albanian economy, can be negatively affected by uncertainty and the image that is created abroad. He also mentioned the effects that, according to him, the protests could have on local and foreign investors.
“The main branch of industry, tourism, is being hit; foreign and domestic investments are being hit. No investor risks his capital where there is uncertainty”, declared the head of DUI.
Ahmeti emphasized that he is not protecting certain political figures, but Albania’s interest, adding that its stability and development are important for all Albanians.
He called on citizens to carefully analyze the consequences of political developments, warning that tensions and insecurity could harm not only Albania, but also the interests of Albanians in the region.
