As climate pressures increasingly affect water resources across the region, Monaco is seeking public input to help guide future decisions on water management and sustainability.
The initiative, launched by the Société Monégasque des Eaux (SMEAUX) in coordination with the Princely Government’s environmental objectives, aims to gather feedback from residents on their water consumption habits, expectations and views regarding resource management.
The survey comes at a time when water security has become an increasingly important issue. While Monaco has invested heavily in safeguarding its water supply, changing weather patterns and prolonged periods of drought have highlighted the need for long-term planning. Restrictions on certain water uses were introduced in 2023 during periods of pressure on regional resources, underlining the challenges that could become more frequent in the years ahead.
Through the consultation, SMEAUX hopes to gain a clearer understanding of how water is used across the Principality and how residents perceive current and future environmental challenges. The information collected will help identify the most suitable solutions and technologies to ensure reliable access to water while supporting Monaco’s sustainability goals.
Officials say the survey is designed to give residents a direct role in shaping future policies. Participation is voluntary, and responses are being collected anonymously.
The findings are expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen Monaco’s resilience in the face of climate change while maintaining high environmental standards and ensuring the efficient management of one of its most vital resources.
