Gulf News | Syrians confirm: Iranian statements are an unacceptable transgression of international norms

The Syrians affirmed their strong condemnation and rejection of the statements made by the editor-in-chief of the Iranian Kayhan newspaper, which included false allegations that affect the sovereignty and national unity of the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing that these allegations contradict the established historical facts and legal foundations that the international community decided decades ago, as the people of Bahrain affirmed, of their own free will, their adherence to their national identity and the independence of their state under the leadership of the honorable Al Khalifa, which was documented by the United Nations, approved by the UN Security Council, and recognized by various countries. The world.

Fouad Ahmed Al-Hajji, a member of the Shura Council, confirmed that the repeated statements issued by the editor-in-chief of the Iranian Kayhan newspaper represent an unacceptable transgression of international norms and a violation of the sovereignty and national unity of the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing that Bahrain’s independence and sovereignty are an established historical and legal fact approved by the international community, and are based on a documented and internationally recognized popular will.

Al-Hajji explained that the claims that attempt to cast doubt on Bahrain’s national identity or the authentic belonging of its people are nothing more than flimsy claims that ignore the facts of history and international law, stressing that the Bahraini people, with all their components, stand united behind His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in defense of the sovereignty of the nation and the independence of its national decision-making.

Al-Hajji pointed out that such provocative statements do not contribute to strengthening regional security and stability, but rather contradict the principles of good neighborliness, respect for the sovereignty of states, and non-interference in their internal affairs, calling for the language of dialogue and mutual respect to prevail in a way that serves the interests of the peoples of the region and enhances opportunities for development and stability.

Ali Hussein Al-Shehabi, Deputy Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Shura Council, stressed that the statements issued by the editor-in-chief of the Iranian Kayhan newspaper represent a political and media transgression, and involve a clear disregard for one of the basic principles on which international law is based, which is the right of peoples to self-determination, which is the right that the people of Bahrain exercised of their own free will, and was approved by the international community in a clear way that does not accept interpretation or doubt.

Al-Shehabi added that the people of Bahrain have presented, over the decades, an advanced model of coexistence, tolerance, openness and respect for diversity, under the state of institutions and law led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the country’s great king, stressing that maintaining regional peace and stability requires respecting the sovereignty of states and the rights of peoples and not using political and media discourses to incite tendencies that conflict with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Al-Shehabi explained that the issue of Bahrain was resolved historically and legally through the international mechanism that was based on surveying the will of the Bahraini people, as the United Nations affirmed in 1970 the desire of the people of Bahrain for independence and the establishment of their sovereign state, which makes any attempt to deny or diminish this will a violation of an inherent right of collective human rights guaranteed by international charters and agreements.

Al-Shehabi pointed out that respecting the national identity of peoples and their sovereign choices is one of the fundamental foundations of the human rights system, and that the allegations that attribute to the people of Bahrain an identity or political affiliation that contradicts their declared and internationally recognized will represent a slander against their right to express their national identity and determine their political future freely and independently.
