Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, known for his tough stance on Iran, backed President Donald Trump’s threat that the US could “take over” the Strait of Hormuz if diplomatic efforts with Iran fail. He in CBS interview says that he expects US attempts to reach a diplomatic solution with Iran to fail, although he noted that “I would rather try diplomacy than walk away from the table.”

“Let’s try a diplomatic solution. I think it’s going to fail. What happens next?” Graham said.
Graham, one of Trump’s closest allies, said he spent more than four hours with the president on Friday after a preliminary deal was struck between the United States and Iran that the administration believes could pave the way for further negotiations to end Iran’s nuclear program.
“If this deal fails, President Trump will take over the Strait of Hormuz by force. The US will control the Strait of Hormuz and levy a tax on anyone passing through it to cover the cost of the operation,” Graham said.
