Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, known for his tough stance on Iran, backed President Donald Trump’s threat that the US could “take over” the Strait of Hormuz if diplomatic efforts with Iran fail. Graham, one of Trump’s closest allies, said he spent more than four hours with the president on Friday after a preliminary deal was struck between the United States and Iran that the administration believes could pave the way for further negotiations to end Iran’s nuclear program.
“If this deal fails, President Trump will take over the Strait of Hormuz by force. The US will control the Strait of Hormuz and levy a tax on anyone passing through it to cover the cost of the operation,” Graham said.
