KOTA KINABALU (June 18): The Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Sabah Branch has organised a one-day Inspector of Works (IOW) programme to enhance the skills and professionalism of personnel involved in construction supervision.
The programme attracted 19 participants, comprising engineers and Inspectors of Works from consulting engineering firms in Kota Kinabalu and surrounding areas.
The training was conducted by ACEM Sabah honorary secretary Datuk Ir Dr Amarjit Singh and committee member Ir Hiew Vun Heng, who shared their expertise in construction supervision, quality control, workplace safety, project management and industry standards.
ACEM Sabah said Inspectors of Works play a critical role in ensuring construction projects comply with approved designs, technical specifications and safety requirements.
“Competent Inspectors of Works help reduce construction defects, improve project outcomes and safeguard public safety,” the association said in a statement.
The programme supports the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda by strengthening technical skills needed for the state’s growing infrastructure and development projects.
ACEM Sabah also noted that the initiative helps prepare industry practitioners for the adoption of Industrial Revolution 4.0 technologies, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), smart monitoring systems and data-driven project management.
The association said it remains committed to advancing the engineering profession through continuous professional development, technical training and industry engagement programmes.
Participants welcomed the practical knowledge shared during the programme and highlighted the importance of continuous learning in keeping pace with the evolving construction industry.
