SIBU (June 19): An Ihsan Madani programme organised by the Sibu parliamentary service centre on Wednesday saw the distribution of 2,000 packs of black tilapia to residents in the constituency.
Sibu MP Oscar Ling said this was the first time his service centre had organised a free giveaway of fresh black tilapia sourced from Batang Ai, and described the overall response as “overwhelming”.
“Due to strong public demand, the quantity of fish was doubled from the initial plan of 1,000 packs to 2,000 packs, with each pack weighing about 1.5kg,” he said in a statement.
He explained that the timing of the programme was specially chosen to coincide with the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls today.
“These fresh black tilapia can be made into a variety of dishes, making them a delicious addition to family meals during the festive season.”
For those who missed the fish giveaway, forgot to collect their fish after receiving a voucher, or arrived late to collect their fish, Ling said his service centre will organise similar programmes in the future.
This includes a mobile service counter at Kim Guan Medical Hall on June 20, and a subsidised goods sales programme at Delta Mall on July 4, he said.
He welcomed members of the public to attend and support the two community welfare initiatives.
