MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Belarusian State University (BSU) and the Dalian University of Technology (DUT) are planning to establish a joint institute for outstanding engineers, BelTA learned from the BSU press service.
The rectors of the two universities, Andrei Korol and Gao Xiang, signed a memorandum of intent regarding the creation of the joint institute. “This is not about opening a new educational institution or legal entity. The agreement envisions the implementation of the most promising direction within the existing cooperation model. In the near future, the parties have agreed to discuss in greater detail the development of educational programs, the procedure for implementing joint curricula, enrollment mechanisms, staffing, academic mobility conditions, and requirements for final certification,” the press service reported.
In addition, during the talks, supplementary agreements were signed that further specify the existing cooperation between BSU and DUT in the joint training of specialists, master’s students, and doctoral candidates.
These arrangements were reached on the margins of the China‑Belarus International Conference on Cooperation in Education, Scientific Research and Production. The large‑scale event is taking place on 17‑18 June at the National Library of Belarus under the motto “Intellectual Interaction between China and Belarus: Joint Innovation in the Context of the Future.” The two‑day conference program includes multilateral scientific discussions, negotiations and meetings on expanding forms of interuniversity and regional cooperation, as well as the introduction of innovative methods for teaching the Chinese language.
The event also features a plenary session and two specialized sections devoted to the scientific achievements of Belarusian and Chinese scholars in mathematics, mechanics and physics. The conference will conclude with a visit by participants to the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone for a practical introduction to the latest research results in industrial cooperation and the commercialization of scientific outcomes from both countries.
The conference is a joint initiative of BSU and DUT, which have been long‑standing strategic partners. This is confirmed by the opening of the DUT‑BSU Joint Institute in China in 2017 and the BSU‑DUT Joint Institute in Belarus in 2019, both based at the two universities. In addition to educating students at the first level of higher education, the universities also run joint educational programs for master’s and doctoral candidates at the DUT‑BSU Joint Institute.
