The Canadian company Anortech has started a new research collaboration with National Research Council of Canada (NRC) to develop the next generation of catalysts based on alumina extracted from anorthosite from Anortech’s license area “Grønne Bjerg”, located in Nuup Kangerlua approx. 80 km from Nuuk.
The project builds on tests carried out in 2025, where Anortech supplied several grades of anorthosite for use in catalysts designed to capture CO2 and convert it to methane through hydrogenation. This appears from a current stock exchange announcement from 8 June.

A more sustainable technology
According to Jim Cambon, director of Anortech, the collaboration can open up new uses for aluminum oxide that can ultimately lead to real climate solutions.

Over the next 12 months, the team at the National Research Council of Canada will develop and optimize alumina on a wide range of parameters.
The company expects to be able to submit an application for an exploitation license in 2027.
