Lebanon is heading to a turning point with the announcement of a US-Iranian agreement that is said to include stopping military operations in the region, including Lebanon, amid anticipation as to whether this development will lead to containing the ongoing escalation on the Lebanese front. US President Donald Trump announced the completion of the agreement with Tehran, while Pakistan spoke of a “peace agreement” scheduled to be signed in Geneva in the coming days.
However, the hours before the announcement witnessed a remarkable field escalation, as Israel targeted the southern suburb of Beirut in a raid, the second in a week, resulting in three casualties, while raids continued on areas in southern Lebanon in conjunction with Israeli warnings to evacuate dozens of border towns.
Trump considered that the raid on the southern suburb of Beirut “should not have occurred on this special day.”
For its part, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, starting tonight, an immediate and permanent cessation of the war will be announced, including in Lebanon.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry indicated that negotiations will be held to reach a final agreement within a period of 60 days
