Case of the killed inDrive driver: the story of a tragedy that shook Sidi Taïbi

Originally from Sidi Taïbi, in the province of Kénitra, Yassine had left his home Saturday May 30 on board his Black Renault Clio. As usual, he worked as a driver via transportation applications, with the aim of providing for his young family. According to testimonies reported by his relatives, his last voice contact with his family took place around 7 p.m., via WhatsApp. After this exchange, silence gradually replaced the news.

In the hours that followed, the family reportedly began receiving text messages from their phone. But these messages quickly aroused suspicion. Their tone, their wording and their way of responding did not correspond, according to those close to him, to the usual way in which Yassine communicated. Around 10 p.m., contact would have been completely broken. The worry then turned into alert.

According to the version presented by the family lawyer, Abdelrahim Hakam, the trap would have started with a transport request placed via the inDrive app by a young woman. When Yassine arrived at the starting point, the young woman allegedly got into the front of the vehicle, while the main suspect took his place in the back, just behind the driver. To justify this place, he allegedly claimed to suffer from a leg injury preventing him from moving up front.

It was during this journey that the situation would have changed. According to the defense statements, the attack was premeditated in an initial flight objective. The suspects allegedly tried to seize the car, the telephone and a chain belonging to the victim. But the operation would have degenerated into a crimeleading to the death of the young driver. Investigators will still have to specify the exact circumstances of the act, as well as the role attributed to each of the suspects.

The next day, Sunday, the family was confronted with the terrible news. Yassine’s body was found in an isolated area near Casablanca. According to the information reported, the victim had been burnedwhich suggests a attempt to conceal traces of the crime. Yassine’s car was then found at Mohammedia. This element widened the scope of the investigation, which now links several places: Sidi Taïbi, where the victim was from, Salé and Kénitra, where certain suspects were identified or arrested, Casablanca, near which the body was discovered, and Mohammedia, where the vehicle was located.

    Nine people accused

The investigation, carried out by the Royal Gendarmerie under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, progressed quickly. Initially, several arrests were announced, before the file expanded to include other people suspected of having participated directly or indirectly in the events. According to the latest information provided, the file now concerns nine people accused, including seven men and two women.

On the night of Friday June 5, 2026, the investigating judge at the Casablanca Court of Appeal ordered the placement of six suspects in preventive detention at the local prison of Aïn Sebaâ, known as Oukacha. Three other people were prosecuted on provisional release, pending the continuation of the investigation. The charges mentioned are heavy and vary depending on the presumed degree of involvement of each person.

The charges mentioned in the file relate in particular to murder, robbery, kidnapping, participation, concealment of elements linked to the crime, failure to assist a person in danger and failure to denounce. The question of the destruction of the body and the distribution of roles between the persons involved should constitute one of the central points of the investigation.

The family’s defense claims that the main suspect changed his statements several times during the procedure. According to lawyer Abdelrahim Hakam, the accused gave several versions to the investigators, before presenting a new version before the investigating judge. The defense also maintains that the hypothesis of the involvement of other people in the attempt to cover up the crime cannot be ruled out.

Faced with the emotion caused by this affair, inDrive issued an official statement to express its condolences to Yassine’s family and loved ones. The platform indicates that it has cooperated with the authorities as soon as it was informed of the case and ensures that it will continue this cooperation within the framework of the investigation. The company specifies that it will not make additional comments at this stage, in order to respect the smooth progress of the investigation.

In Sidi Taïbi, pain and waiting for justice

In Sidi Taïbi, Yassine’s death left a deep wound. Those close to him describe him as a calm, responsible and hardworking young man, committed to his role as a father and keen to earn a decent living. His disappearance, then the discovery of his body, caused great emotion in his native region, where many residents rallied around his family.

Yassine’s funeral took place on Monday June 1 in Sidi Taïbi, in the presence of many relatives, neighbors and residents who came to pay their last respects. For his family, the arrest of the suspects does not heal the pain, but opens the expectation of a complete judicial truth. The case remains today in the hands of justice, which will have to establish the exact responsibilities and determine the role of each person in this crime which transformed a simple journey into a national tragedy.
