Ukrainian Anastasia Hnatyshyn became the 2026 European champion in classical chess. The representative of Ukraine won 9 points out of 11 possible at the tournament – 8 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.
The 15-year-old girl from Lviv earned 215 rating points for the tournament. If before the start of the European Championship, Hnatyshyn took a modest 233rd place in the world ranking, then according to the results of the tournament she rose to the 17th position.
The tournament was held from May 25 to June 5 in the Georgian city of Batumi in 11 rounds with one rest day (May 31). A total of 131 female chess players took part in the 2026 European Championship.
