A man turned out seriously injured this Friday after a head-on collision between a car and a truck occurred in the kilometer 50 of Route N°24in the department of Río Negro, reported the Police headquarters departmental.
According to the official report, the accident occurred when a driver traveling south tried overtake a truck that was traveling in front of her in the same direction and ended colliding head-on with another cargo vehicle that was coming in the opposite direction.
As a result of the crash, the car passenger suffered serious injuries and was transferred by an ambulance from San Javier to a health center in Fray Bentos.
Subsequently, an ambulance from Nuevo Berlin assisted the driver and her son, who had minor injuries.
Sources from the Río Negro Headquarters consulted by El Observador indicated that the section where the accident occurred has a succession of descents and slopes which can cause difficulties in calculating the distance of vehicles traveling in front.
“It is a journey with two descents, one short and another steeper slope. If you don’t know the route that could happen to you, you might trust yourself to pass and be surprised by the truck,” the sources said.
The authorities added that, at the time of the accident, there was no fog and the horizontal route marking was correctso visibility conditions were not affected by climatic factors.
Scientific Police carried out the survey of the scene and proceedings continue to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
