Her presence was announced in the official program, but Meloni did not arrive to participate in the EU-Montenegro Summit.
ANSA recently reported that she did not go to Montenegro because “the celebration on the occasion of the 212th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Carabinieri in Reggio Calabria was extended.”
“The Prime Minister’s office announced that Meloni personally informed the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, and the President of the European Council, Antoni Košta, about the impossibility of arriving in Tivat on time, expressing her regret,” says ANSA.
The Italian opposition also reacted.
“The absence of the Italian Prime Minister caused reactions from a part of the opposition in Italy, which judged that it was an important gathering dedicated to the European perspective of the Western Balkans and the future expansion of the European Union,” the news of the aforementioned agency emphasized.
