At the end of the Tivat Summit, Milatović said that the key message is that the enlargement policy is in focus.
“On the European path, Montenegro has had both success and stagnation, but from 2023 our goal is to become a member by 2028. It is now a national project, but also a goal that I believe is achievable,” he said.
Milatović thanked all the officials who participated in the EU Summit – Western Balkans, stating that European unity was demonstrated.
Von der Leyen stressed that the integration process is based on merit.
“I think that the goal of Montenegro to be part of the EU by 2028 is achievable. This process is about turning dreams into reality,” she stressed.
She repeated that Montenegro has made impressive reforms, and that now encouragement is necessary in order to close the remaining chapters by the end of the year.
Košta said that it is very important that in May the drafting process on Montenegro’s accession to the EU began, which is happening for the first time after Croatia had candidate status.
“The accession of the Western Balkans remains our priority, and this region can count on our continued support. I think that today we sent a strong message on that occasion,” he concluded.
