Türkiye and Russia have started talks on extending natural gas supply agreements beyond 2026, as current agreements expire at the end of the year.
Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar told Bloomberg at the Baku Energy Forum held in Azerbaijan that Turkish state company BOTAŞ is in talks with Russian gas giant Gazprom PJSC regarding the renewal of import contracts.
The minister noted that no agreement has yet been reached on possible volumes and duration.
In December, Ankara extended two contracts with Gazprom for the purchase of gas through the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines.
Türkiye is the second largest market after China for the company, which lost most of its customers in Europe after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
