The authorities are embarking on a vast campaign to combat the occupation of the public maritime domain and access to swimming areas, for the well-being of summer visitors and the image of the North.
Mobilization: The objective of this regional campaign against squatters and street vendors is to create an environment conducive to relaxation and swimming in complete safety, alone or with family, while helping to make the region one of the essential destinations at the national and international levels.
With its two maritime facades, the region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima stands out for its most beautiful beaches, very popular with Moroccans and foreigners, but they are generally invaded during the summer season by itinerant merchants and practitioners of other illegal summer trades. Thus, the authorities of coastal towns are engaging in a vast campaign to combat the occupation of the public maritime domain and access to swimming areas, for the well-being of summer visitors and the image of the North. This regional campaign which benefits from the particular interest of Younès Tazi, wali of the region and governor of the prefecture of Tangier-Assilah, has just started in the famous beaches of the city of the strait, through the municipal beach and Achakar as well as those of the other coastal municipalities across the eight provinces and prefectures that make up the region.
The objective of this raking operation is to create a setting conducive to relaxation and swimming for solo or family summer visitors while helping to make the region as a whole one of the must-see destinations. Only more than 10 km from Tetouan, Martil – which is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Morocco – has just experienced, on Saturday May 30, the launch of a major strike operation against the rental companies of parasols, tables, chairs, etc. This merciless fight which is part of the preparations for the 2026 summer season aims to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the beach. And this to the great satisfaction of local civil society and ordinary citizens who welcomed the efforts made by local authorities and other stakeholders as well as the choice of the date for starting this sweeping campaign, more than twenty days before the start of the summer season. They therefore called for this strike operation to be extended to all black spots in the most dynamic areas and the most frequented by tourists in the urban area. The launch of this campaign made it possible to put an end to the lines of parasols, chairs and tables which were seized by the authorities, helping, to the great joy of summer visitors, the beach to regain its charm.
Like the previous year, Al Hoceima benefits from a strong mobilization of all stakeholders, including the authorities and professionals, to present a tourist offer that meets the expectations of visitors, led by Moroccans who are generally responsible for 60% of all overnight stays during the year in this province. City officials are making the organization of the swimming season and the fight against street vendors and renters of umbrellas, tables and chairs among their major priorities, to allow the city and its hinterland to better position themselves to maximize their profits during this high season.
Note that as part of this regional campaign, authorizations to exercise summer occupations on beaches or ledges will be granted according to the criteria required to put an end to anarchy on the beaches.
