A Kingstown man who was arrested wearing the same clothes he was wearing when he entered a woman’s property will spend the next five months in jail.
The man, Jamel Miller aka Shrek, pleaded guilty to two charges before Senior Magistrate Tammika McKenzie at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on May 27.
The charges are that on April 29 and May 22, he entered upon the premises of Shenice Williams, of McKies Hill, to wit, her yard, to commit an offence, to wit, theft.
The facts are that on April 29, Williams, a 33-year-old therapist, secured her property, which is surrounded by a five-foot-tall wire fence.
There are CCTV cameras on the property, which also has two metal gates.
In January, Williams had observed that her vehicle would be scratched up whenever she parked it in the driveway.
One night, she heard knocking on her bedroom window and became concerned and was afraid to sleep at home.
On April 29, about 7 a.m., Williams saw a notification on her cellular phone and reviewed the CCTV footage, which showed a dark-skinned, slimly built male dressed in a red shirt, long pants and a pair of slippers had been on her property at 2:45 a.m. that morning.
On May 22, about 11 p.m., Williams was at a bar in Richmond Hill when she received another cellular phone notification.
She checked the cameras and observed a male in a red shirt and white pants, wearing a red-and-black backpack, leaving her property.
She reported the matter to the police and PC1090 Williams and a party of officers visited the area.
No one was met at the house.
The next day, about 8:30 a.m., Williams handed over the CCTV footage to Williams. The CCTV footage was circulated to police officers, and Miller was identified.
Miller was later apprehended by police on White Chapel Road, Kingstown and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department, where he was informed of the offences, cautioned and interviewed in the presence of PC871 Lewis.
Miller was shown the CCTV footage and was found to be wearing the same clothes he was wearing in it.
He admitted that he is the person in the footage and volunteered a written statement.
The magistrate sentenced Miller to five months and three months’ imprisonment for each offence.
The sentences will run concurrently.
