The need to adapt the police to increasingly complex threats has focused the speech of body director, Bruno Lasneduring the celebration of Police Day. In his intervention, he warned of the increase in cybercrimes and of the impact of artificial intelligence in the new digital scams. “Cybercrimes are on the rise and, with the help of AI, are becoming more and more credible. We are talking about a changing type of crime“, he pointed out lasnewho has defended the need to continue investing in training and technology to respond to these new risks.
The director has remembered that the interventions and arrests have decreased despite the increase in population and tourismbut warned that this does not mean that the challenges are less. Among the current concerns he highlighted the technological fraudsthe aggressions between teenagers disseminated on social networksthe drug traffickingthe prostitutionthe thefts and the gender violence.
About the episodes of youth violencehas stated that “we must be proactive and prevent it from happening again“, while claiming the involvement of families, schools and institutions. He has also insisted on the importance of prevention against the consumption of alcohol and drugs while driving: “We have more and more conscientious drivers, but we will not let our guard down.”
Faced with this scenario, he has opted to strengthen the body modernization with tools such as fingerprint identification systems, facial recognition or cryptocurrency fraud investigation. “We must take more steps. We need financial and human resources. We must continue to invest,” he said. Despite this technological evolution, the director has defended that the police cannot lose its essence. “We must continue to be close to citizens, to collaborate, accompany and be respected”, he stressed.
The police has 285 members, of which 20 have started their training this year. according to lasnethe expansion of the places of new agents must allow to guarantee the generational relief of the body and face future challenges with guarantees.
