The federal government warns of a significant risk of thunderstorms from Tuesday afternoon around 2 p.m. until the evening hours. Possible effects include lightning strikes, branches breaking off or individual trees falling over.
It is recommended to plan protection options and alternative routes for outdoor activities. Bodies of water as well as places exposed to lightning strikes such as mountain ridges, trees, masts or towers and open areas (e.g. clearings, football fields) should be avoided. Outdoor objects must be secured and sun blinds drawn.

As the precipitation forecasts from Meteo Switzerland show, heavy rain showers are expected in large parts of Switzerland on Tuesday afternoon. It starts in western Switzerland at around 2 p.m.: the cantons of Neuchâtel, Fribourg, Jura and Bern are affected.

Over the next three hours, the rain cells will move further east and will also bring heavy rain in central Switzerland (expected to be heaviest around 4:20 p.m.), in the cantons of Solothurn (4:40 p.m.), Aargau (5:10 p.m.) and Zurich (5:30 p.m.) and from around 5 p.m. in eastern Switzerland.
