This evening, the third protest in a row is expected to be held in Tirana, against the construction in the protected area of Zvërnec. The rally was called at 18:00 in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, after a series of protests that have started in the capital in recent days.
The day before, thousands of citizens first gathered near the Ministry of the Interior and then marched towards the government building, in a protest that took place on “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard. The participants conveyed the message “Tomorrow more”, warning of further mobilization.
Protesters demand the cancellation of the construction project in the Zvrnec area, calling it an intervention in a protected area and accusing the government of favoring private interests to the detriment of public property. On the other hand, they claim that various investors are benefiting from state land unfairly.
Tensions were also reported during Saturday’s protest in Zvërnec, where private security guards used violence against protesters and a citizen was dragged away, which prompted reactions and further escalation of discontent.
In the rally held in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, the citizens chanted the slogans “Rama prison, Berisha prison”, “Albania for Albanians, death to traitors”, “Albania is not for sale” while demanding the stopping of the project in Zvërnec and the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
