On the eve of World Environment Daythe liberal deputy for Cortés, Roberto Pineda Chacón, presented this Thursday a bill aimed at sanctioning the burning of tires and the abandonment of this waste in unauthorized places.
The legislator explained that the proposal has an environmental and public health focus, and clarified that it does not intend to prohibit or criminalize citizen demonstrations, but rather to avoid practices that generate pollution and affect the population.
“It’s not that I am against demonstrations, I am pro-demonstration, but in a correct and orderly way,” said Pineda Chacón when defending the initiative.
According to the project deputy, sanctions would be applied against people who burn tiresabandon these products in unsuitable public spaces or store them irresponsibly, generating environmental, health or safety risks.
Among the measures contemplated are fines, temporary or permanent closure of establishments, confiscation of material and other administrative or civil liabilities, depending on the seriousness of the infraction.
Pineda Chacón also explained that it will be considered an aggravating circumstance when the burning or abandonment of tires occurs in populated areas, near educational centers, hospitals, health centers or other places where there may be greater impact on citizens.
The proposal was presented in the context of the World Environment Daywhich is commemorated every June 5, a date on which different sectors draw attention to pollution, waste management and the need to strengthen environmental legislation in the country.
