Ankara, June 1 (SANA) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that energy cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan demonstrates the effectiveness of their regional strategy, describing planned natural gas supplies to Syria as a step that supports development and strengthens regional stability.
In a massage delivered by Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar at the opening of Baku Energy Week, Erdoğan said the two countries have advanced major energy projects that were once considered unrealistic, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum and Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) projects.
He also highlighted prospects for expanding cooperation in transporting Turkmen gas through Azerbaijan and Türkiye, as well as increasing the use of existing pipelines to deliver resources from Kazakhstan to international markets.
Erdoğan said Türkiye is pursuing an energy policy focused on efficiency and environmental sustainability, adding that the country aims to play a leading role in global climate action by hosting COP31 in Antalya in November.
He said Türkiye and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation and natural gas supplies to Syria in July last year.
Erdoğan added that the first phase of the project began in August with Qatari funding and currently provides around 3.4 million cubic meters of gas per day for electricity generation in Syria.
