US attacks several Iranian military targets, Tehran responds with attack on air base | USA

The United States announced the carrying out of attacks over the weekend in southern Iran, targeting radar and security control systems. droneswith Iran responding with an attack on a base used by the USA, despite the ceasefire in force between the two countries.

This wave of American attacks, the third in just over a weektargeted the city of Goruk and the island of Qeshm, near the Strait of Hormuz, the US Army Central Command (Centcom) reported on Sunday on the social network X.

The operations were carried out “on Saturday and Sunday in response to aggressive actions by Iran, including the shooting down of a drone North American MQ-1 that operated in international waters”, added Centcom, at a time when negotiations between Washington and Tehran to end the war, which began on February 28, remain stagnant. Also this Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Armed Forces attack targets in the southern suburbs of Beirut, capital of Lebanon, in a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh.

“American fighters responded quickly, eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station and two drones unidirectional attacks that represented a clear threat to vessels transiting regional waters,” added the US command.

No US military personnel were injured, according to Centcom, which added that it “will continue to protect US assets and interests in response to Iran’s unwarranted aggression during the current ceasefire”.

In a statement released by state news agency IRNA, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that US forces targeted a telecommunications tower on the island of Sirik in Hormozgan province. The paramilitary force said it responded with an attack on the base used by the US military to carry out this offensive against Iranian territory, without specifying the location of the base, but guaranteed that “the intended targets were destroyed”.

The guards warned that, “if the attack is repeated, the response will be completely different” and that “responsibility will fall on the aggressive US regime”.

However, air defenses in Kuwait, where a major US base is located, intercepted missile attacks and drones this Monday, as sirens sounded across the country, the state news agency KUNA said, without providing further details.

Kuwait stated on the social network X that air defenses opened fire during the night to intercept shots from drones and missiles, without specifying which area of the country was affected. The Armed Forces said that “any explosion sounds that may be heard are the result of interception” and urged the population to follow “the safety instructions issued by the competent authorities”.

In a post on social media late Sunday night, the US President did not mention the exchange of hostilities, repeating the still unproven allegations that the Iran “really wants to make a deal”and chided critics, including those he described as “seemingly unpatriotic Republicans,” for their criticism of negotiations to end the conflict.

“Just relax and take it easy, everything will work out in the end — it always does!” wrote Donald Trump in Truth Social.

Trump is under pressure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and consequently lower US fuel prices before the November legislative elections. At the same time, he faces a possible negative reaction from the most radical members of his party if he makes concessions to Tehran.

Trump has stated on several occasions that his main objective with this war is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon through the enriched uranium it possesses, but Tehran vehemently denies these plans. The two sides remain at odds over several other issues, including Tehran’s demands for the lifting of sanctions and the release of tens of millions of dollars in Iranian oil revenues frozen in foreign banks.
