That is why it is necessary to promote a Pact against Violence, as Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso has suggested, based on preventive, educational and training actions that lead to a model of social coexistence.
Because without citizen training or values rooted in education at home and at school, it is not possible to create citizens prepared to live together in a civilized manner.
This proposal was launched from the platform of the Forum against Crime and Violence, sponsored by Listín Diario and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), held yesterday with the support of several academies and public and private institutions.
It is pertinent, because statistics and studies reveal that violence incubates in traumatized homes and spreads widely in social environments.
The Pact against Violence, which the Listín Diario endorses and assumes as the banner to achieve its materialization, involves a set of social and legal measures that would serve as the basis for a contract between the State and society.
There are many edges that emerge, as from a rotating center, from the instinct or violent episode that causes abuse, revenge, homicides and robberies, plus the corruption and inequalities that serve as a breeding ground for it.
Security is not a snapshot of the moment, but a permanent process: if prevention fails, the punitive system comes into action, but intervention cannot wait until the social contract has been broken.
Therefore, this pact must be a national agenda that transcends government periods and involves all sectors.
