Personnel urged to systematically restructure the ministry, following MSME role expansion

    13 4 2026 8
Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development, Dr Charlie Than, delivering his remarks at the ceremony for the follow-up briefing on the guidance provided by the President.

Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than said the Ministry must systematically review and restructure its organizational framework following its reorganization into the Ministry of Industry and Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Development, stressing that the change significantly expands the role of MSMEs and requires all personnel to work with full commitment to ensure more effective and successful implementation of duties.
He made the remarks at a follow-up briefing session on the guidance provided by the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, held on the afternoon of 11 April at the Ministry of Industry and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development.
The session followed the President’s meetings and guidance delivered to Union-level officials, members of the Union government, the chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, chief ministers of Region and State governments, and deputy ministers. These meetings took place on the sixth day of the first regular session of the Third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on the morning of 10 April, as well as during the oath-taking ceremony and the President’s address at the Presidential Palace Reception Hall that same afternoon.
The Union minister stated that the ministry must compile the points included in the President’s guidance according to their respective operational sectors and develop plans to implement them while also enhancing existing activities, and he urged that, in accordance with the President’s guidance, the ministry continue to implement its vision, objectives, and duties and encouraged all officers and staff to work together cooperatively as they have done in the past.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the ministry must continue to carry out its existing operational duties such as industrial development, human resource development, the systematic development of industrial zones and businesses, and the supervision and inspection of electricity and boiler usage to ensure public safety and efficient operation in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, orders, and directives.
He underscored that the ministry must plan and implement measures to ensure the production of high-quality, marketable essential medicines, consumer goods, clothing, cement, and other accessories for the public, emphasizing that all necessary factors including personnel, machinery, raw materials, processes, and quality standards must be fully ensured through advance planning; he further instructed that, to maintain continuous production and increase output, plans for procuring spare parts and raw materials must be prepared and implemented from the beginning of the current financial year, that factories and workshops must systematically implement disaster management plans to ensure uninterrupted production, and that the two ongoing ministry projects must continue according to their designated timelines, noting that production activities can commence only after their completion and therefore all tasks must be carried out systematically and with the utmost seriousness.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Ministers U Thwin Aung and Dr Aung Zeya, and responsible officials. Directors-general, managing directors, deputy directors-general, general managers and officials participated virtually. — MNA/TH
