On Thursday, Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening police dispersal powers during the Grand Ducal Police’s presentation of their annual report.
The Luxembourg police on Thursday presented their annual report, revealing a mixed picture for crime in the Grand Duchy over the past year. On the positive side, cases of fraud, vandalism, and burglaries in uninhabited properties have all decreased.
Officers on duty are also being harassed less frequently, which may be linked to the introduction of body cameras last year. Fraud cases fell by 13%, a drop that police say reflects the growing impact of public awareness campaigns.
The news is less encouraging on other fronts: violent robberies have risen by 30% and cases of domestic violence have increased by 10%. During the presentation, Gloden reaffirmed his certainty that the bill strengthening police dispersal powers, known in German and Luxembourgish as the Platzverweis, will be implemented.
The legislation has yet to be reviewed by the Council of State, which had already raised strong concerns over an earlier version of the bill last year on the grounds that it posed potential risks to individual rights and freedoms.

- Over the course of a full week, the figure rises even further: around 453,200 people come into contact with the RTL brand over the course of seven days, representing 79.9% of residents aged 16+. Compared to the previous media consumption study in Luxembourg, RTL’s daily and weekly reach remain stable at a high level (-0.2 and +0.2%, respectively).
