A judge ruled precautionary measures for the three people arrested for the alleged crime of theft of fuel from a municipal dump truck.
Among those detained are two workers from the Public Works Directorate of the Municipality of Guayaquil.
The flagrancy qualification hearing took place on April 16 at the city’s South Criminal Judicial Unit.
In the proceedings, the magistrate declared the arrest of the citizens legal and gave way to the beginning of the tax investigation against them as alleged perpetrators of the crime.
The Prosecutor’s Office requested precautionary measures and not preventive detention. However, the defendants must go to the Prosecutor’s Office every Tuesday, while the investigation progresses, which will last 30 days.
In addition, the respective release tickets were issued.
Arrest of those involved
The arrest took place on April 15during a police operation carried out on 42nd and P streets, Batallón del Suburbio.
The intervention occurred after an alert generated by the video surveillance system of the ECU911which reported the entry of a municipal vehicle into a property.
Upon entering the scene, the agents found a dump truck owned by the Municipality of Guayaquil and, in different areas of the property, several metal pieces, including grilles and structures with municipal insignia.
Finding of 46 fuel cans
In another area of the property, a strong smell of fuel was detected and 46 bins containing the hydrocarbon.
According to Álex Anchundia, Manager of Segura Ep, those involved supplied themselves with fuel at the CTM (Municipal Technical Center), left with full tanks, deviated from their routes and went to various points, where they allegedly sold part of the fuel and stored it in cans.
Cell phones and other evidence were also seized at the site and placed under chain of custody for investigations. (YO)
