You land in Sintești after a month of flying with the drone. Fines of 320,000 lei given by the Environmental Guard and 11 tons of copper confiscated

After the illegal burning of waste around the Capital, the National Environmental Guard controlled the towns in the Sintești area on Monday, May 25. The results include a criminal complaint documented with drone footage, 11 fines with a total value of 320,000 lei, along with 11 tons of confiscated copper.

“At this moment, one of the biggest control actions is taking place in Sintești and in the localities in the area in recent years. It is an investigation from the last months in which the area was monitored, and the footage will be sent as evidence to the criminal authorities. Today we will officially register the criminal complaints based on the findings made as a result of the monitoring, accompanied by clips and pictures. The criminal acts must be sanctioned, otherwise the phenomenon will continue for years from now,” the interim minister said of the Environment, Diana Buzoianuon Facebook.

The general commissioner of the National Environmental Guard (GNM), Andrei Corlan, detailed the irregularities discovered after a month-long drone monitoring.

“What is happening today is the result of a monitoring started practically at the beginning of this year and realized through a drone monitoring for over a month, during which we followed the mode of operation, the routes used and built the action that we implemented. Today’s action is an integrated collaboration of the Romanian state. Without the Police and without the Gendarmerie, it would not have been possible. But what is important to say is that, following the monitoring done today, they are transmitted, separately from this action, 11 contraventional sanctions and a criminal report was drawn up on the findings made in the area. Attention, the findings made following the monitoring, because these are the new procedures of the National Environmental Guard and this is the legislation that we developed and which was promoted last year. In the framework of the action, we did not limit ourselves to the town of Sintesti, where there were other actions, but we also extended it to the collection centers, to the operators economic agents who work with them. We managed to disable, among other things, approximately 11 tons of copper at an estimated value of 320,000 lei. We managed to identify cars parked in various premises that transported ferrous and non-ferrous metals, which were disabled by the National Environmental Guard,” said Corlan.

He added that the control inspectors discovered that some of the owners of the machines used in the transport of waste had drawn up shipping documents designed to mislead the competent authorities.

“Furthermore, some of the owners of these machines tried to produce documents, as if they were from other counties transported and not from Sintești. In all these counties declared as sending counties, we used the commissioners there to verify the existence and the possibility of shipping that waste. I’ll give you an example: in Vâlcea, a work point that had been closed for several years was given as a sender for the waste that we identified. The message is quite important, because this drone monitoring was not only here, in Sintesti. It happens constantly in several objectives in the country and it is the mode of operation that the Environmental Guard will approach in the coming years, namely the efficiency through technology so that we use as few resources as possible, but obtain the greatest results”, explained the general commissioner.

On Monday morning, at 6:00 a.m., inspectors from the National Environmental Guard, together with teams from the Romanian Police and the Romanian Gendarmerie, descended on the town of Sintești, but also in the surroundings in an ongoing control action.

The head of the GNM mentioned that, at the end of this day, a press release will be issued detailing both the action itself and the number of sanctions applied, the amount of the sanctions applied, the number of locations that were checked, the number of disabled vehicles and the amount of confiscated waste.
