The Netherlands and Japan drew 2-2 at the start of Group F of the 2026 World Cup, in a match played in Arlington, Texas, marked by balance, intensity and a second half full of emotion. The Dutch team had an advantage twice, but the Japanese always responded and managed to leave the pitch with a precious point in their debut in the competition.
After a goalless first half, but played at a high pace, Ronald Koeman’s team managed to unlock the scoreboard at 51 minuteswhen Virgil van Dijk appeared in the area to put the Netherlands ahead, taking advantage of an insistent move
The Japanese response was not long in coming. To the 57 minutes, Keito Nakamura reestablished equality, restoring confidence to the Asian team at a stage in which they were beginning to grow in the match. Even so, the Dutch took control of the match again and regained the advantage shortly afterwards, through Crysencio Summervillewhich did the 2-1 after 64 minutesrekindling hope of a successful entry into the tournament.
When it looked like the Netherlands would hold on to the three points, Japan once again showed their ability to react. Near the end, at 88 minutes, Daichi Kamada took advantage of an insistent move in the area to score the equalizer and close the result in 2-2guaranteeing a fair outcome in one of the most balanced matches in this initial phase of the World Cup.
