Police are investigating a report of larceny after a 21-year-old Morvant man allegedly paid $3,200 to a woman he met via Instagram, but never received the items promised.
According to reports, the victim said he was contacted on June 17, by an Instagram page using the name Kavita M. The woman allegedly told him she came from a wealthy family and could assist him in obtaining an iPhone 14 and dental braces for his upper jaw.
Investigators said arrangements were made for the woman to meet the victim at his workplace, Adam’s Bagels, on June Wednesday. However, she reportedly arrived later than expected, at approximately 4.45 p.m.
Police said the suspect entered the business place and collected $3,200 in cash from the victim, with $2,500 intended for the iPhone and $700 for the dental braces.
After receiving the money, the woman allegedly left in a white station wagon, registration unknown.
The victim later reported that he was blocked on both Instagram and WhatsApp and was unable to make further contact. He did not receive either the phone or the braces.
