A MT LAMBERT woman believed to be pregnant is currently in critical condition at hospital after she was stabbed this morning by a man she knows.
Police said that following the stabbing the man allegedly tried to end his life.
Police said that around 8.15 a.m. residents of Circular Road West in Mt Lambert heard a commotion coming from an apartment which has been occupied for the last month by the man and the woman who police said were Customs officers.
Police added that three units from the St Joseph Police Station responded.
When officers arrived, they found the injured woman with approximately 15 stab wounds to her abdomen, neck and hands and immediately took her to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
Two other police units stayed behind and officers had to borrow a crowbar from a neighbour to get at the suspect who had locked himself in the apartment. Police said that they were eventually able to get at him and reportedly prevented him from ending his life. It was not known what method he used to attempt this.
He was then taken to the St Joseph Police Station where he remained being questioned up to this evening.
