Giselle Ougrah had excelled academically, graduating with excellence from St Stephen’s College after attaining 16 subjects at CSEC and CAPE.
But despite her achievements, her family had warned her about becoming involved with 26-year-old Stephon Kandon.
On Friday, those fears took a tragic turn when Ougrah, 23, and Kandon were found dead at an apartment along Sundarsingh Trace, Penal.
Ougrah, fondly known as “Precious”, had left home to visit Kandon, with whom she had reportedly been in a relationship for about a year.
Preliminary information indicates that Ougrah suffered multiple stab wounds, while Kandon was found hanging inside the apartment. Her body was found on a mattress inside the apartment.
Investigators are treating the deaths as a murder-suicide. Police believe Kandon cut a rope from a nearby hammock and used it to hang himself after he murdered Ougrah. The relationship had been tumultuous, and Ougrah’s relatives had advised her repeatedly to end the relationship.
Relatives became concerned after repeated attempts to contact her by telephone went unanswered. She was subsequently found by her brother-in-law at the apartment.
Police were called to the scene, where the bodies were discovered.
Despite her qualifications, Ougrah, a hairdresser, worked at a popular barbershop on Market Street, Princes Town.
Investigators are continuing enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Guardian Media will update this story as more information comes to hand.
