A question was received for Egyptian Fatwa HouseIt came guaranteed: “Is marriage or Hajj the priority for young men? Where there is a man who decided to get married in one year and perform Hajj in the following year, and the marriage was not consummated in the agreed-upon year due to some circumstances, and the year of Hajj came. He asks: Is it better to get married, or to perform the Hajj obligation at the time specified for it, and postpone the marriage until next year?”
Dar Al-Fatwa’s response
No doubt that Hajj It is a necessary obligation for every capable person. As God Almighty said: “And the Hajj to the House is the responsibility of the people, whoever is able to make a way to it” (Al Imran: 97), and it is immediately obligatory according to the majority of jurists, and it is forbidden to delay it beyond the first opportunity.
Marriage is legitimate and desirable according to the verses andHadiths many; However, the jurists said: It may be obligatory or it may be recommended.
It becomes obligatory for someone who can afford it, is able to bear its consequences, and fears hardship – that is, falling into immorality – if he does not marry. It is recommended if he is able to afford it, and does not fear hardship if he does not marry. That his condition is normal and that he has the ability to restrain himself from immorality if he delays marriage.
Accordingly, we say: If marriage is obligatory, he should take precedence over Hajj. Because if he did not marry, he would commit immorality, and Hajj is obligatory for the able-bodied person, and one of his means is having money in excess of his necessary needs, and one of his necessary needs is marriage in such a situation, especially since Hajj is obligatory if lax according to some imams, meaning if he delays it for a year, he is not sinning.
If marriage is recommended for him, Hajj is performed on it. Due to the necessity of submitting the duty to the delegate. From what was mentioned, the answer to the question is known.
And God Almighty knows best.
