Last week, the President of Kazakhstan came to Uzbekistan on a 1-day visit. Comprehensive relations were discussed at the dialogue held in Bukhara. The two countries want to further increase the volume of trade, which reached 5 billion dollars today.
One of the important events of the past week was the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. The two largest economies of Central Asia are Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and the largest societies are also in these two countries.
Bukhara is one of the oldest cities not only in Uzbekistan, but also in Central Asia today. The history of the city dates back to more than 2500 years, and almost all of its ancient monuments are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Just as the president of Tajikistan was recently welcomed, the president of Kazakhstan was welcomed in Bukhara with great pomp. Although the visit was practical, the arrangements were similar to those of a state visit. Tokayev was personally met by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and they went to the negotiations in the same car.
The agenda of the 1-day visit of the President of Kazakhstan included economy, logistics, regional and complex relations. It can be understood from Tokayev’s arrival in Bukhara that first of all the leaders are in constant communication. Secondly, interregional alliance ties should be strengthened.
For example, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, the problems are similar in the regions of both countries. For example, ecological, he says.
“The air is equally dirty in Tashkent, Almaty, Turkestan, Shymkent. We can work together on this, we can take a comprehensive approach. You know, we want to hold an interregional forum. The first one will take place at the end of July this year, which was initiated by Uzbekistan. This is what is meant by regional communication, that is, our inter-regions”, – says Serik Jumangarin, Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan.
The two countries want to further increase the volume of mutual trade. There are already indicators for this. According to the government of Kazakhstan, the volume of deliveries of vegetable oil, sugar, meat to Uzbekistan has increased significantly in the first months of 2026.
In his speech, Tokayev said that his colleague Mirziyoyev is developing Uzbekistan and emphasized the importance of transport and logistics issues in the relations between the two countries. It is known that the highways currently under construction will reduce international cargo transportation through these two countries by at least 3 days.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated his colleague on the success of the referendum in Kazakhstan. He positively assessed that holding regular informal meetings in the regions has become a good tradition and serves to open and constructive discussion of current issues on the bilateral and regional agenda.
It is reported that trade has grown steadily and reached 5 billion dollars last year. Cooperation projects are being successfully implemented in automotive industry, infrastructure development, logistics, electrical engineering, building materials and other sectors. he writes Press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
The parties also discussed issues of accelerating large regional projects, such as the construction of the Qambarota hydroelectric station, and promoting initiatives on the export of “green” energy.
During the day, the delegations of the leaders of the two countries visited the situational center of the Bukhara regional government, the national hackathon on artificial intelligence, and one of the textile enterprises. Of course, the trip was not complete without a visit to the famous ancient places of Bukhara.
At the end of the day, Shavkat Mirziyoyev personally welcomed the high-ranking guest followed.
