US President Donald Trump has slammed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, accusing her of rejecting US demands to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Trump announced this on its social network “Trut Social”and his statements come amid increasingly strained relations between the two leaders.
“After spending trillions of dollars on NATO, Italy and its prime minister do not even think of getting involved in solving the problem of the Islamic Republic of Iran and their very serious nuclear threat. We have been defending them for decades, but when the temptation comes, they are not there to defend us and the rest of the world. That is not good,” he wrote.

In recent days, the rhetoric between the two leaders has intensified. Maloney accused Trump of “nonsensical” and “constant, unprovoked attacks.” The row escalated after Trump claimed that the Italian prime minister repeatedly begged him for a photo together at the recent G7 summit in France.

Trump accused Maloney of rejecting American interests in efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He also criticized Rome for not allowing the US to use Italian airports, which he described as a “major logistical inconvenience”.
He also emphasized that Washington contributes significantly to Italy’s security through NATO. The US president eventually claimed that Maloney was now trying to rebuild relations with him after the US “military defeated Iran”, linking it to her position on the domestic political scene.
