As St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Taiwan celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations this year, Taipei’s envoy in Kingstown says that her country does not take its Vincentian ally for granted.
“Today, we do not merely commemorate an event. We celebrate 45 years of an unbreakable bond forged through sincerity, strengthened by cooperation and sustained by mutual respect,” Fiona Fan said on Wednesday, during a joint parade by the 2026 Midshipmen Cruising and Training Squadron of the R.O.C (Taiwan) Navy and the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.
“The ROC Navy squadrons’ successful completion of a 50-day voyage crossing the West Pacific Ocean and navigating the Caribbean Sea is a symbol in itself. It speaks of courage; it speaks of courage, commitment and unwavering resolve,” the ambassador said during the event at Arnos Vale.
“For Taiwan, it is a reminder that peace is not passive. It is protected, preserved and strengthened through resilience and responsibility.”
A fan said that, as “a responsible member of the international community”, Taiwan remains a steadfast force for good, committed to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
“This year marks a milestone, our 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between our two countries, a partnership that has grown far greater than diplomacy.”
SVG and Taiwan will mark 45 years of diplomatic relations on Aug. 15.
“We see this shared journey in landmark achievements such as Argyle International Airport, Rabacca Bridge, the National Library, and the ongoing development of the Arnos Vale acute care hospital,” she said, mentioning infrastructure donated or financed by Taiwan through loans.
“And today, we look forward with hope to new frontiers in smart agriculture, healthcare, innovation, youth and women empowerment and sustainable tourism.”

Fan said Taiwan’s vision is “simple yet profound: a future where our cooperation continues to uplift lives and strengthen communities.
“In a world of uncertainty, our partnership carries a message that extends far beyond our shores,” she said.
Fan expressed on behalf of her government and people, “heartfelt appreciation to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for its enduring support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the international organisations, including the United Nations, the World Health Organization and Interpol, etc.
“We do not take this friendship for granted. We honour it, we cherish it, and we remain committed to being a reliable partner, sharing knowledge, contributing expertise and working hand in hand for global well-being.
“May these friendships remain a beacon of hope, a symbol of resilience and a promise of a brighter shared future for all our people,” Fan said.
Meanwhile, squadron commander, Rear Admiral Ming-feng Chen, noted the joint military display between Taiwan and SVG.
“… today is the celebration, not just for the display of the strength and precision of our military, but the celebration of the profound 45 years of friendship between our two nations, separated by oceans, but united by shared values of freedom and democracy,” Chen said.
“…the joint performance by our navy military band and the police force band will highlight the harmony and resonance between our two countries,” he said and thanked the people of SVG for their warm hospitality.
“May the bond between our two countries remain steadfast and everlasting,” Chen said.
