One day after one year of the Jet Set tragedy which cost the lives of 236 people, a commemorative mass was held in memory of the victims who died that morning and in support of the relatives who are experiencing the aftermath of that April 8, 2025.
After 10:00 in the morning, the Eucharist began and was presided over by Father Rogelio Cruz de la Father Montesinos Diocese.
“What are we asking for? What are we still asking for? What are we going to continue asking for?” Cruz said while those present mentioned a single word: “Justice.”
“Today we make the commitment, we are not going to ask for justice, we are no longer asking for justice, we are going to demand justice. I am calling for us to assume a brave attitude so that the memory of our loved ones is not taken away from us,” the religious man said euphorically.
Likewise, Cruz questioned the attitude of the Espaillat family from the beginning of the judicial process and made a call to the nation’s political figures through two questions: “Where are the politicians of this country?”
“Why the attitude of the family? Why this attitude so far from reality and what has happened there? Why this attitude of defense when it should have been recognized? It is demonstrated with the videos that have come out that there was not only negligence, but irresponsibility,” he indicated.
Furthermore, Cruz assured that those involved in the tragedy are “helpless” because the Code of Criminal Procedure places them “in a downward spiral that has no end.”
“What the Code of Criminal Procedure presents is a mockery. We are helpless in these representatives, we are helpless in justice. The Code itself puts us in a downward spiral that has no end,” he asserted.
The commemorative event was attended by friends, family and those affected by the misfortune dressed in black and white. In addition, in their hands were flowers, posters and T-shirts with the faces of the deceased.
