Heavy rain fell today, Sunday, on the southern island of Kyushu, located in southwestern Japan, prompting the Meteorological Agency to warn of the possibility of landslides and floods in low-lying areas, and rising or overflowing water levels in rivers.
The Japanese Kyodo News Agency quoted the Japanese Meteorological Agency as saying that linear rain bands – areas in which large rain clouds form, forming successively over the same area – had formed over Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures late Sunday morning, which greatly warns of the risk of disasters.
The weather forecast is likely to remain quite unstable across western Japan, with Shikoku – one of Japan’s four main islands – likely to experience rain heavy enough to issue warnings, the Meteorological Agency added.
