BELGRADE – In the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade, a formal academy was held on the occasion of the Day of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and the Police of Serbia, where awards were presented to the most deserving members, and the Minister of Internal Affairs and the director of the Police of the Republika Srpska Željko Budimir and Siniša Kostrešević were also present.
Gold, silver and bronze medals were presented to the most deserving members of the Ministry of Interior and the Police of Serbia.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, pointed out that members of the MUP and the police are the pillars of the state and pointed out that it is the most honorable calling for the brave, determined and those who know that people’s lives depend on them.
“You were always at the service of the motherland and you were the first with our soldiers to fulfill the most sacred patriotic duties when it was necessary to protect Kosovo and Metohija. That is why I have special respect for the families of the killed and wounded members of the police,” said Vučić, reports Srna.
Vučić emphasized that the state will continue to improve the standard of living of police officers and work on the modernization of equipment, and said that the people who lead Serbia will not allow the police to be humiliated, given that there are attempts to take away its powers.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police of Serbia today celebrate their day and the Epiphany of All Souls in memory of the events of 1862, when after the murder of a Serbian boy at the Čukur fountain in Belgrade, there was a conflict with the Turks, in which the Serbian gendarmerie played a major role in the defense of the people.
The Academy was also attended by Prime Minister Đuro Macut and ministers in the Government of Serbia, President of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabić, representatives of the police of Hungary, FBiH, Montenegro, the Serbian Army, the diplomatic corps and religious communities.
