Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat Permanent Member and Politburo Member Trần Cẩm Tú addresses members of the Vietnamese business community and embassy staff during a high-level diplomatic visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on April 10.
As part of an official diplomatic mission to Cambodia, Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat Permanent Member and Politburo Member Trần Cẩm Tú met with staff from the Vietnamese Embassy, business leaders, and expatriates in the capital on Friday.
The high-level engagement took place as Cambodia prepared for its traditional New Year festivities in mid-April. Addressing the gathering, Secretariat Permanent Member Trần Cẩm Tú extended greetings for health and success and reiterated that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam consistently place immense value on the overseas community in Cambodia.
During bilateral discussions, the Vietnamese leadership frequently requests that Cambodian counterparts facilitate a favourable policy environment. These efforts aim to help the community stabilise their livelihoods, integrate into local society, and contribute to the development of both nations. The senior official expressed his desire for expatriates to maintain trust in the State’s strategic direction while working to improve the legal status of people of Vietnamese origin within the kingdom.
The Permanent Member of the Secretariat urged the embassy and representative agencies to ensure strict compliance with local regulations. He emphasised the importance of upholding Vietnam’s international reputation by preserving cultural identity and the national language. Furthermore, he encouraged a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s history and legal framework to strengthen the community’s role as a vital bridge between the two neighbours.
He called on various associations to strengthen their support networks, build a positive image, and monitor regional developments to advise the Party on promoting friendly cooperation. This includes coordinated efforts with relevant authorities to safeguard the rights of nationals and to assist firms in achieving 10% or 20% growth through new investment opportunities.
Embassy of Vietnam Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ noted that the visit follows the first session of the 16th National Assembly, which consolidated the new leadership apparatus. This timing reflects the special significance Vietnam attaches to these bilateral ties, which continue to be strongly promoted. The Ambassador confirmed that despite persistent challenges, the embassy and consulates general have successfully coordinated with local officials to ensure the community maintains stable, long-term living conditions.
This meeting served as the concluding activity for the high-level Vietnamese delegation’s visit.
The mission was conducted at the invitation of Cambodian People’s Party Central Committee Standing Board Chairman and Cambodian People’s Party Vice President Samdech Say Chhum.
Throughout the visit, officials noted that bilateral trade and social integration remain top priorities, with 100% of the delegation’s objectives met before their departure from Phnom Penh. The strengthening of these bonds ensures that both nations continue to prosper through mutual respect and shared economic goals. VNA
