Synopsis: Initiative aims to enhance transparency and provide timely information during incidents.
Interior Minister Sar Sokha has asked all departments and units under his jurisdiction to set up official Facebook pages to improve communication and promptly respond to public concerns.
Interior Ministry spokesman Ren Rattanak said the initiative also applies to capital and provincial administrations, as well as police stations nationwide.
Officials are required to use the platform to disseminate information, respond to incidents, and ensure timely public communication.
He added that the move will improve transparency and make it easier to track information, helping reduce confusion and public doubts when incidents occur.
Phnom Penh-based IT student Heng Veasna welcomed the initiative, saying Facebook has become an important tool for both public services and private communication.
He noted that official pages can help authorities quickly share announcements, safety information, and policies, while allowing citizens to report issues or ask questions directly.
He added that regular updates on administrative work can increase public trust and allow authorities to counter fake news more effectively.
Social media presence, he added, is part of broader digital transformation efforts to modernise public administration and make institutions more accessible.
