Vei Samnang, Governor of Takeo province, has instructed local authorities to pay close attention to the issue of youth gangs that are causing disturbances to residents and society.
He urged village and commune authorities, as well as relevant law enforcement agencies, to intensify efforts to crack down on gangs that create disorder in local communities, ensuring safety and security for residents.
The remarks were made during a ceremony to officially appoint the new mayor of Prey Kabbas district at the district administration hall on Tuesday.
During the event, Samnang stated that youth gangs causing disorder on roads, in public gathering places, and other public areas remain a major concern requiring strict attention and decisive measures from authorities. He stressed that law enforcement must act firmly to suppress such activities—“if one group emerges, suppress one; if ten emerge, suppress ten”—to completely eliminate gang-related activities from local communities.
The governor also emphasised that gang members carrying weapons such as swords and engaging in violent attacks must face the strictest enforcement of the law, with no tolerance for influence, connections, or intervention from powerful individuals. All offenders must be punished according to the law.
The governor also advised district, village, and commune authorities that as the provincial administration works to attract more investors, they should facilitate and support both domestic and foreign investors who choose to invest in the area. Such investments will help create employment opportunities for citizens, strengthen the local economy, and reduce poverty and migration.
