Venezuela’s acting president Rodriguez in Grenada for first foreign visit

TELESUR: The Venezuelan Acting President’s visit to Grenada aims to significantly strengthen bilateral ties and advance strategic integration between the two Caribbean nations, reinforcing the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace that seeks to foster regional unity and mutual development.

This visit comes as a pivotal moment to continue the successful roadmap signed in April 2025, during Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell’s visit to Caracas, further cementing a collaborative framework that benefits both populations.

Upon her arrival at the Maurice Bishop International Airport in Saint George, Delcy Rodríguez was received with full honors by Grenadian government authorities, a gesture underscoring the deep bonds of sisterhood and respect uniting both countries.

The diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Grenada, formally established in 1977, have experienced a notable acceleration and growing mutual trust over recent decades. This period of enhanced cooperation has been characterized by consistent high-level exchanges and a shared commitment to regional stability and socio-economic development.

Rodríguez’s presence in Grenada is not her first engagement with the island nation; in April 2024, in her then-role as Executive Vice President, she joined the people of Grenada for the commemorative events marking their 50th anniversary of Independence, highlighting her close personal and political connection with the country.

As Acting President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, this visit is specifically designed to consolidate comprehensive cooperation under a “win-win” model. It reaffirms Venezuela’s unwavering commitment to building respectful relationships that translate into tangible benefits for the quality of life of both people. The emphasis on mutual benefit and shared progress is a cornerstone of Venezuela’s foreign policy, particularly within the Caribbean basin, where solidarity and collective action are deemed essential for overcoming regional and global challenges.

    Boosting Regional Cooperation

In a key engagement during her visit, Acting President Rodríguez met with Grenada’s Governor-General, Cécile La Grenade, a significant encounter that underscores the profound mutual respect and robust strategic alliance existing between the two nations.

Governor-General La Grenade, who serves as Head of State and is celebrated as the first woman and scientist to hold the esteemed office since 2013, hosted the meeting in an atmosphere of great cordiality and constructive dialogue. Discussions focused on establishing more direct communication channels to bolster technical and political cooperation in the coming years, ensuring that joint initiatives are effectively implemented.

Both Venezuela and Grenada share a common aspiration for greater Latin American and Caribbean unity to effectively confront pressing global challenges, including climate change, economic instability, and external pressures. They also converge on the critical importance of fostering geopolitical stability within the region, recognizing that such stability directly benefits the quality of life of their respective citizens by allowing resources and efforts to be channeled toward sustainable development.

During the day, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez visited the Parliament, where she was received by the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, and the highest legislative authorities of the nation. Through this meeting, the authorities seek to give continuity to the Roadmap signed in April 2025, during the visit of the premier of Granada to the city of Caracas.

Accompanying the acting President was a distinguished Venezuelan delegation, including Foreign Minister Yván Gil, Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands Julio León Heredia, and Minister of Popular Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture Juan Carlos Loyo. This comprehensive representation underscores the multi-faceted nature of the strategic relationship being deepened, encompassing key sectors such as diplomacy, agriculture, and fisheries, which are vital for economic development and food security in both Caribbean nations.

The collective efforts of this delegation during the visit were specifically oriented towards broadening and strengthening the strategic relations between Venezuela and Grenada, aiming for a future of enhanced collaboration and regional solidarity.
